Effingham High School Curriculum Guide

Our existing Effingham High School Curriculum Guide is currently under construction. These documents will dramatically change over the next several years as we transition to the new learning standards and the new assessments scheduled to begin in 2014-15. Alignment to new standards in Math and English Language Arts and the potential for future standards adoptions, such as the Next Generation Science Standards, demands a very extensive revision of the existing academic standards documents.

The completion of the existing Grades 9-12 Curriculum Guide was a collaborative effort of certified staff to outline what students need to know and be able to do upon the successful completion of these courses taught at Effingham High School. A revision of this curriculum guide has taken place annually, typically when with a new textook adoption or at department's request. The existing curriculum guide is not all inclusive of what we teach students, but it is representative of the necessary knowledge and skills a student must acquire in order to be successful as they progress through their educational career.

Each course identified includes the name of the course, the department, prerequisites, text reading level, amount of credit gained from taking the course, and the length of the course. Each identified course includes a syllabus description with objectives, organized by the Illinois Learning Standards, with which they are aligned.

It is an expectation of the District that staff will use this manual as they plan their curriculum throughout the school year. Students will be expected to learn the information as outlined by the courses.
