What is Title I?

Title I was established as a federal funded program in 1965. The goal of Title I is to provide extra help and instruction for the students who need it most. These are children who are not performing at or near the level of others their age. Across the country millions of elementary and secondary students benefit from the Title I program.

Effingham Community Unit District #40 has three schools implementing Schoolwide Title I programs: Early Learning Center, South Side, and Central. Teachers and Title I staff have developed appropriate programs to serve the needs of their students. Emphasis is placed on reading and math because of its importance to early school success.

Illinois has received a Federal Flexibiliy Waiver from No Child Left Behind. ISBE has created an FAQ document to provide additional information.
