Mentoring Program

Nothing is so potent as the silent influence of a good example

Challenges

Challenges are a part of life. Sometimes, dealing with life's twists and turn can interfere with a person's ability to do their best. Many children (and adults) are fortunate to have a "natural mentor" in the form of a trusted neighbor, extended family member, coach, pastor, or the like, that can help navigate challenges. But some youth lack access to an adult outside their immediate family that can provide support, encouragement and a role model to emulate. The one-on-one attention of a mentor is a way to reach out, in a very personal way, to students searching to find their way to adulthood.

The purpose of mentors is not to take the place of parents or guardians, but only to supplement them. Mentors are neither counselors nor tutors, but friends.

The goal of Unit 40's Mentoring Program is to give support to students as well as their parents and caregivers so that our children can be as successful as possible in both school and life.
