School Administration

In 1948 the county schools consolidated into five community school districts. Effingham Community Unit School District No. 40 now serves the students who live within its 127 square mile boundries.  Unit 40 operates three elementary schools, a junior high school, and a high school.

All of these schools follow the District motto of being "In Search of Excellence". It is our hope that each child who attends a Unit 40 school will develop as much as they possibly can within the confines of their own ability. Our mission is to provide the best education possible using all of our available resources in the most efficient manner possible.

Effingham offers programs that focus on the student as a whole and that serve children from early childhood to young adulthood. We not only provide experiences in early childhood, regular education, and special education but we have developed partnerships with colleges and universities that give our students a start on their post-secondary education.
