Welcome to Effingham Community Schools

On behalf of Effingham Unit 40, let me welcome you to our District web site. We hope that the site will give you a brief snapshot of our schools and our community. Effingham is a community that cares about its citizens, and it especially cares about its children. Our residents realize that learning is a life-long experience. That experience not only prepares us for an ever-changing world of knowledge, but it should also help us to be good citizens of this country and of the world.

Fifty-six years ago the area schools consolidated into a public school district that now serves 127 square miles. Unit 40 operates six elementary schools, a junior high school, and a high school. All of these schools follow the District motto of being "In Search of Excellence". It is our hope that each child who attends a Unit 40 school will develop as much as they possibly can within the confines of their own ability. Our mission is to provide the best education possible using all of our available resources in the most efficient manner possible.

Effingham offers programs that focus on the student as a whole and that serve children from early childhood to young adulthood. We not only provide experiences in early childhood, regular education, and special education but we have developed partnerships with colleges and universities that give our students a start on their post-secondary education.

We hope that you enjoy your visit to our website and we also hope that you will come and visit our schools in order to find out more about us. We are proud of our traditions and of our students.

Mr. Mark Doan, Superintendent
