Welcome From Principal Marten
As I begin my first year as a principal at Edgewood Grade School, I am looking forward to meeting each of you. I am excited about the many opportunities that this school year has in store. We have a fabulous group of teachers and wonderful staff that work together to provide a safe, nurturing, educational environment for your child/children. I truly believe that TOGETHER, we can provide your child/children a successful school experience.
To help the school year go as smoothly as possible, a Parent/Student handbook has been prepared so that you can become familiar with Effingham Unit #40 policies and procedures, as well as the daily operations at Edgewood Grade School. There is a link below but you will also receive a "hard copy" of the handbook at registration. I encourage you to read the handbook carefully, with your child, because changes have been made. Please note that the teacher's work day and office hours for the school are from 7:30-3:30. Students are not to arrive at school before 7:30 a.m. The student's day officially begins at 8:15 a.m. It is vitally important that your child be at school on time EVERY DAY.
My goal is for you and your child to have a WONDERFUL experience here at Edgewood Grade School. Please feel free to contact me if I can help you in any way throughout this school year. You may contact me at school 217-540-1270 or 618-238-4221 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. Let's work together and have a GREAT year!
Parents + Teachers and Staff + Students ALL working together = A Successful School Year

Edgewood Grade School Student Handbook
The student handbook contains information about operation of the Edgewood Grade School. After reading this booklet, you will become familiar with our policies and procedures. Reading and understanding this manual will save you time and phone calls. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to call your child's teacher or myself. It is better to ask questions than to worry or be concerned about a situation. Many times there are simple explanations that make everyone feel better.
Please read this booklet carefully. It contains information you will need to know if your child is ill, how to send money for breakfast and lunch, what to do if you want to pick up your child from school, (in case you do not want them to ride the bus home), what kind of treat you can send for your child's birthday celebration at school, and what you will need to do in case of an emergency, plus much more information.
We encourage all parents to visit and volunteer this year. We need as many extra pairs of hands as possible. If you have time or if grandparents come to town, come and visit our schools, Please call your child's teacher to arrange a good time for a visit. If you have any questions about your child's progress, your first stop is to meet with his/her teacher. Please contact me if I can be of further assistance.
Volunteers at Edgewood Grade School
We LOVE having volunteers help in our school. District Policy states that in order to be a classroom volunteer, field trip chaperone, fundraiser volunteer, etc. in any Effingham Unit #40 school, you must attend the Volunteer meeting and successfully complete a background check. This year, the district volunteer meeting will be held on Monday, August 12th at 5:30 pm.
If you would like to visit our school, please contact the principal or your child's teacher to determine a time.
