Elementary Counseling
Our goal is for students to adjust and function effectively in the school environment.
Program Overview
An elementary counseling program serves all children and should emphasize the successful development of the whole child. This is accomplished by addressing social/emotional/behavioral, physical, and academic needs such as attendance, grades, and classroom behavior. Through consultation and collaboration with parents, administrators, and teachers, a team-based strategy for success can be formed. Also, educationally-based groups, individual counseling and coordination of activities leading to school success, is provided.
An elementary counseling program should also be based on effective cooperation between the counselor/social worker, teachers, administrators, support staff, parents, and community. It should encourage a complimentary relationship between the instructional and counseling programs, which include individual, small group, consultation, coordination, and family assistance to benefit the child in the educational process.
An elementary guidance/counseling program should be
- Comprehensive
- Cooperative Effort
- Consultative
